With the growth of the computer came the increase in jobs that require many hours of sitting. There are many businesses built around the web so that everyone on the planet has the chance to see it. Although the internet seems to increase jobs and profit, there is a major drawback of working with computers. The time spent sitting in front of the computer takes away time spend being active. There are dangers involved with sitting for hours, one being weight gain and loss of muscle tone.
The following is a list of three physical exercise that you can do while sitting at your desk. This is just a short list and many more can be found on line or in exercise books dedicated to the person who spends a lot of time at a desk.
- Exercise your arms with dumbbells. 1 to 3 pound dumbbells can be found at just about any sporting goods or department store and they are very affordable. When you work in one position with your hands on the keyboard, your arms will soon become a little sore. If you have a dumbbell it can be used to work the arms and keep them toned and strong. This can be done by sitting upright with the arm extended over the head, as if you are reaching for the sky. With the dumbbell in your hand and keeping the arm straight and steady, slowly bend and unbend the arm.
- Another exercise that can be done at the desk is a buttock and leg toner. Stand next to the desk and brace with one hand with your feet flat on the floor. Slowly lift your heal of the outer leg while tensing the buttock. Hold for a count of three, slowly lower the foot back to the floor. Repeat this a couple times a day, switching legs to tone both.
- One way to exercise and tone your stomach is to do leg lifts while sitting at your desk. The easiest way to do this is to turn your chair sideways so you have enough room to extend your legs. Slowly raise your bent knee to your chest then slowly extend your legs until they are straight.
As with any exercise or diet program, talk to your doctor. You and your doctor know what is better for you and your body.
